On Our Doorstep

Minutes From Our
Yellow Front Door...

The Londonderry Arms Hotel is situated in the picturesque harbour village of Carnlough, Ballymena. Nestled just at the foot of Glencloy, the second of the nine Glens of Antrim on the magnificent Causeway Coastal Route, about midway between Belfast with its Titanic sights and the world-famous Giants Causeway.

Our renowned family heritage hotel, which was once owned by Winston Churchill, is an ideal base when exploring the many sights on our doorstep as well as those just a stone’s throw away. From the stunning Causeway Coastal Route and many Game of Thrones locations along the way, there’s something for everyone in this beautiful part of the world.

Steps from our front door, there are many attractions. From waterfall walks to boat trips from our harbour and a fascinating information centre about Carnlough’s rich history in our newly opened Heritage Hub – there are so many things to do when you choose to stay in The Londonderry Arms Hotel.

We offer 35 bedrooms, cosy lounges, a traditional restaurant and bistro bar as well as a specialist whiskey bar. Together with our delicious food and friendly staff, the Londonderry Arms is perfectly equipped to meet the needs of world travellers, staycationers and day trippers. All our guests will feel welcome and cared for in this truly unique and relaxed atmosphere.

Carnlough Bay Boat Tours

At Carnlough Bay, you can hop aboard a 30-minute boat tour and enjoy the local wildlife, scenery and interesting history of the area. Suitable for those with sea legs and those who have never sailed on water before.

On the tour, expect to see the wildlife such as dolphins, seals and birds, with binoculars provided as you board. Take in the beauty of the rugged cliff edges and rolling green hills of Antrim, and discover more about where you’re staying, with fascinating facts about the past and present of Carnlough fishermen.

Beautiful Cranny Falls

Cranny Falls is a lovely gentle walk leading towards the outside of the seaside village of Carnlough. The easy incline of this walk follows the route of an old limestone railway track to the now disused Gortin Quarry.

Along this dander, you can appreciate interpretation panels that illustrate the fascinating local history. The walk ends at Cranny Waterfall, which is a marvel in itself. One of our favourite walks no matter rain or sun, a great way to get some fresh air and take in the incredible local scenery.

Carnlough Harbour & Beach

At the foothills of Glencoy, one of the nine Glens of Antrim, and on the shores of Carnlough Bay, lies a sheltered and compact harbour and beach. It is the focal point of Carnlough village, used by pleasure boats and small fishing boats, offering great opportunities for sea angling.

Carnlough Harbour is one of the must-see stop-offs along the Causeway Coastal Route, especially for Game of Thrones fans. Fans will instantly recognise the stony staircase leading down into the sea, filmed as part of the Free City of Braavos Canal, where Arya Stark crawled up from the waters after being stabbed by the Waif in season six.
