Causeway Coastal Route

Perfectly Positioned For Your
Coastal Route Experience

We are situated in the picturesque harbour village of Carnlough at the foot of Glencloy, the second of the nine Glens of Antrim on the magnificent Causeway coastal route, about midway between Belfast with its Titanic sights and the world-famous Giant’s Causeway.

Our historic hotel, once owned by Winston Churchill, is an ideal base when exploring the Causeway coastal route and the Game of Thrones locations that can be found along the way.

Steps from our front door, there are many attractions, from Waterfall Walks to boat trips from our harbour and a fascinating information centre about Carnlough’s rich history in our newly opened heritage hub.

With 35 bedrooms, cosy lounges, delicious food served in our Coachhouse Bar and Bistro and a superior whiskey collection available in our Arkle Whiskey bar – The Londonderry Arms is perfectly equipped to meet the needs of world travellers, staycationers and day trippers. We guarantee that all our guests will feel welcome and cared for in this truly unique and relaxed atmosphere.

Causeway Coastal Route

The Causeway coastal route starts in Belfast and ends in Derry/Londonderry, a scenic road trip covering 130 miles of stunning coastline.

The route is undeniably one of Ireland’s best-known and most-loved drives, offering spectacular views and a variety of points of interest including set locations for the world-famous Game of Thrones, the lush green Glens of Antrim, the Gobbins cliff walk, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, the Giant’s Causeway, several dozen great beaches and so much more!

A staple Northern Irish adventure, the coastal route map can differ depending on where you start your journey.

Beginning in Belfast, head north and you’ll enjoy endless sea views as you drive by the quaint towns and villages of Carrickfergus, Whitehead and Larne before stopping for a much-needed break at Carnlough. Of course, you can embark on this beautiful journey from the opposite direction, starting in Derry/Londonderry and making your way towards Belfast.

Taking a break on the road is important for any driver and passengers. For a bite of lunch, a quick drink or just a chance to stretch the legs and admire the local scenery. Parking up at our hotel will ensure you have a warm welcome, a welcome break and friendly local guidance for the rest of your trip.

At Carnlough is where you’ll find us, The Londonderry Arms Hotel. Here, you can pop in for whatever takes your fancy – a tasty bite to eat, a refreshment, or even a comfy night’s stay so you can fully appreciate the beautiful coastal atmosphere.

In Carnlough itself, you can also take time to explore the village’s fascinating rich history, beautiful namesake beach, and many shops and cafes.

There’s also Glenarm Castle, known fondly as a national treasure. Here, you can wander in its historic Walled Gardens, or marvel at the grand house interior. The mythical nine Glens of Antrim radiate from the Antrim Plateau to the coast, offering an area of outstanding natural beauty that is a must-see for adventurers from near and far.

From here, driving the Causeway coastal route will take you to many other destinations that are firm favourites. From Rathlin Island to the Dark Hedges, Ballintoy Harbour to the Giant’s Causeway – you’ll never be short of sights to see and things to do on this magnificent stretch of coast.

No matter where your final destination is on the Causeway coastal map, we make a great rest stop to help you feel refreshed for the remainder of your journey. Contact us today to book.
